StreetLight Mission

Thanks to your help, as the needs are expanding, so are we. On May 1st of 2009, STREETLIGHT MISSION took over The Hope Center, an outreach established by New York City Relief. This has allowed us to provide help six days a week. We have increased the number of people who get food each day by 50%. Over 300 families receive bags of groceries from us every month. We provide thousands of toiletries, clothing items, shoes, diapers and school supplies every year. We are tutoring at risk children in essential reading skills. We host drug free events including movie nights, block parties and holiday dinners.

Presently our facilities serve those in need six days a week, provide a home for an urban church, host two recovery meetings and countless other activities. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate the number of people who attend events. We have put up tents to provide room for those who cannot fit in the building for our services in the warm months. In winter people are unable to participate in some events because of the limited space. In the summer we shut down the streets for block parties where we serve more than 500.

While we strive to utilize every square inch of space for as many purposes as possible, there is an immediate need for more room. We are looking at nearby properties and land to increase the size of the Mission and the services we offer. We hope to serve meals three times a day, seven days a week. We would like to offer emergency housing as well as transitional housing with discipleship programs. We would like to be able to accommodate more people at our services and functions.

With your help we can make this possible!
