  • In 1997 STREETLIGHT MISSION founders, Paul and Karen Yuschak began working with the poor and those struggling from alcohol and drug abuse in Elizabeth.
  • In 2003 the Yuschaks started serving at a new street church in Elizabeth that would become StreetLight Church.
  • In 2004 the Yuschaks moved their family to Elizabeth to better serve those in need. Paul became Senior Pastor of the church.
  • In 2007 StreetLight helped establish the Bridge to Recovery for Union County, a collaboration consisting of community, faith, human service agencies, and the criminal justice system whose goal is to coordinate a continuum of care for substance abusers and their families.
  • In 2008 with increasing demands for help that exceeded the abilities of one church, The STREETLIGHT MISSION Inc. was established as a 501c3 not for profit agency to provide help to those suffering from the devastation of poverty, addiction, abuse and hopelessness.
  • In 2008 StreetLight helped found the Rescue Alliance, a faith based collaborative located in the New York City metropolitan region. Our vision is to see that every man and woman living on Manhattan’s streets is offered a chance to see their life transformed.
  • In April of 2009 STREETLIGHT MISSION became a member of the Association of Gospel Rescue Mission (AGRM).
  • On May 1, 2009 STREETLIGHT MISSION took over The Hope Center, which was established by New York City Relief as an outreach center in 1999. Since the need was so great and the building at 1181 East Broad Street was limited in size, the search began to purchase a building that would allow services to be expanded to those in need.
  • In July of 2009 STREETLIGHT MISSION met with other members of Association of Gospel Rescue Mission (AGRM) from New Jersey. The goal is to provide better service to those in need throughout New Jersey and leverage available resources.
  • In August of 2012, Board Chairman Sarino Tropeano, President Karen Yuschak and Director of Finance & Admin Theresa Christopher completed a Fellowship with Rutgers New Jersey Social Innovation Institute in the development of StreetLight Resale.
  • In January of 2013, Pastor Karen Yuschak was elected to a three year term on the Board of Trustees of the Association of Gospel Rescue Mission (AGRM)
  • In April of 2013 thanks to a very generous gift from the people of Evangel Church, STREETLIGHT MISSION was able to purchase their first property located at 424 Westminster Ave, Elizabeth.
